You need Apple's Font DA Moverto move the fonts inside your system file which is inside your System Folder. The easiest thing to do is to Double Click on the Font & DA Mover application and it will automatically open your System. On the right will be a list of the fonts in your System File. Click the open button on the right and you will be given a dialog box in which to find the font suitcase you wish to use. Once you have opened the suitcase, click on the fonts in the window on the right (The new fonts) and press the copy button between the two windows. This will copy the new fonts into the system. if you want to add more fonts in another suitcase, click the close button on the right and then click the open button (This open/close button is the same button that changes names). Find your next suitcase and repeat the copying process.
TRUE TYPE NOTE FOR SYSTEM 6
To use the true type fonts you must have the True Type INIT which goes in your system folder. If you just put this in, restart before you use the True Type Fonts. The True Type Fonts have the ".suit" after the name on the suitcase. You must also be using at least System 6.0.7 and be using the version of the Font & DA Mover fronm that new system. Be sure all old versions are not on your hard disk. Old versions of the Font & DA Mover do not know how to handle True Type and can cause a system crash. When using the Font & DA Mover, you can tell True Type from Bitmapped versions because True Type Fonts do not have any number after their name unlike bitmapped versions that have a family of fonts at different sizes.
SYSTEM 7 & 7.1 INSTALLATION
Be sure the system folder is closed first. Next drag the fonts to the system folder icon until the folder becomes hilighted. Release the mouse and you will be notified that these fonts must be put in the System. Click OK and your fonts will automatically be installed. If your using System 7.1 you will be told that these need to be in the FONT folder and that is where the computer will put them there. You must however quit all open applications for the new font to take effect. You can also manually put the fonts in the Fonts folder yourself. (NOTE: you do not need the True Type INIT if using a version of System 7)
TYPE 1 POST SCRIPT FONT INSTALLATION
SYSTEM 6
Follow the instruction above for System 6 True Type installation but this time only the Bitmapped fonts are to be installed and no True Type INIT is needed. Next place the Printer Fonts (The ones with the short funny names that resemble the fonts name) in the system folder. If using a laser printer, the post script will be used from these printer fonts and send to your printer. The fonts will NOT however always look very good on screen unles you are using Adobe's Type Manager which is free from adobe to all Macintosh Customers (Info comes in a read-me with system 7)
SYSTEM 7 & 7.1
The instructions are the same as for true type again See Above). You must put both the Printer Fonts (The ones with the short funny names that resemble the fonts name) and the bitmapped fonts into the System folder (Drag the files to the System Folder icon until it is hilighted and then release the mouse). The Printer Fonts will be placed in the Extensions Folder and the Bitmapped font will be installed in the System. If you are using System 7.1, bothe files will be put in the Fonts Folder.
